The best free website accessibility checkers
Seven free checkers, from WAVE and Lighthouse to Pope Tech and Sitejar, compared on pages per check, what they test, what they cost and who each one suits.
Compare
There are dozens of ways to check a website for accessibility, and they are not interchangeable. A free browser extension, a multi-page scanner, an expert audit and an overlay widget each answer a different question, at a different cost, and each one stops somewhere. These pages set those differences out side by side, using each tool's own public documentation, with a source and a date for every price and limit.
Sitejar is our product, and it appears in these comparisons. We say so at the top of every page, we list where other tools are the better choice, and we do not rank ourselves first. If you spot an error, email hi@sitejar.app and we will correct it.
Seven free checkers, from WAVE and Lighthouse to Pope Tech and Sitejar, compared on pages per check, what they test, what they cost and who each one suits.
Why WAVE is the right tool for inspecting one page in your browser, when a multi-page scan with source-level fixes helps more, and how to use the two together.
Free checkers, code-level scanners, expert audits and overlay widgets compared by approach: what each does, whether it fixes your code, and what it typically costs.
